#TrainForLifeEmpowermentCampaign Post 51: ZEN - Ever find yourself pulling into your driveway and not remembering the drive home? Our brains can default to auto pilot quite easily and before you know it the day is over. Alan Watt's definition captures the essence of the word Zen beautifully. "Zen is liberation from time. For if we open our eyes and see clearly, it becomes obvious that there is no other time than this instant, and that the past and the future are abstractions without any concrete reality.” I think of Zen as that sacred space suspended between the past and the present. The hard part is being fully present when you are there. Try practicing an intentional 3 minute pause this week before an important conversation or meeting or before making an important decision. It is a great way to get grounded and you might like what you experience and the outcome. However, I don't think getting through the day is about willpower at all.... I think it is about willingness, a willingness to have an open heart despite the circumstances. Don't get jaded, disillusioned or angry. Choose the path that invites you to feel vulnerable and hopeful so your heart remains open. For it is your heart that has the power to move you through even the toughest of times, because it is fueled by the greatest force on our planet.... #TrainForLifeEmpowermentCampaign Post 47: HEALING - is the process of getting to the other side of sadness. First stop.... sorrow which can bear down on your heart like a boulder creating a barrier to joy. However, if you keep moving forward... taking small steps, pausing and then taking another, you will begin to feel the weight of the boulder lifting. In time, the boulder will become a rock, the rock will become a stone, the stone will become a pebble and the pebble will become a grain of sand. In time your heart won't feel as heavy and the line between sadness and joy will begin to blur. The healing process helps you realize that to feel sorrow is to have also felt great joy. Losing someone special teaches you the power of love and healing moves you closer to being grateful for the time you had rather than what you lost. In this fast paced, go motivated, goal oriented world it is easy to stay detached and unaware of where you are energetically. Energy is a precious commodity and the more you use the more you need to replenish, which is why taking time to recharge is so important. If you dive a little deeper you will soon realize that fatigue is multi-dimensional... you can feel emotionally exhausted, physically tired, and mentally drained independently or experience them all at once. So pause to take an “energy inventory” so you don’t find yourself out of gas with nothing left in your tank. Most people live a fast paced, achievement-oriented and goal-focused life: a rather exhausting existence! I know because I find myself there far too often, which is why I advocate so vehemently about the importance of pausing.
