BRAIN HEALTH – Mental health is such an important part of overall well-being, so I have put together 12 Train Your Brain Tips for you to consider. Everyone has thousands of thoughts per day and the brain is working 24/7, so what can you do to keep it healthy. Your brain is like any other muscle, with exercise you can improve your brain health. 12 simple tips to consider:
1. Take a brain break: Take intentional pauses throughout the day and allow yourself to be fully present in the moment. Getting the right amount of sleep is also important so you brain can recharge.
2. Notice ruminating thoughts: Regardless of what comes up, meet yourself with kindness. Don’t judge your thoughts, just notice common themes.
3. Dive under the surface and inquire: Spend time proactively seeking to understand the “why” underneath your ruminating thoughts.
4. Talk about it: Reach out for help and open up to a trusted resource, it is a great way to sort things out, release negative energy and get rid of stress.
5. Solve don’t get stuck: Focus on how you can move your thinking in a positive direction by spending your time and energy focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on negative thoughts.
6. Let it be: If you can’t let something go or find a solution, try giving yourself permission to just let it be for a while.
7. Move for better mental health: Exercise is not only good for the body, it is a great for the mind.
8. Fuel your brain for optimal performance: What you put into your body also affects your brain, so eat wisely.
10. Take a break and go outside: Spending time in nature is calming for the mind and body.
9. Laugh and play every day: The brain gets a positive jolt when you are relaxed and having fun.
11: Creativity lights up the brain: Your brain is happy when you give that inner child permission to paint, dance, sing, write and color outside the lines.
12: Try meditation: Research validates that meditation has a number of positive mental and physical health benefits. For starters, it is a great way to calm the mind and central nervous system.
60 second de-stress exercise: If you feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed, pause and take 5 to 10 very slow deep breaths. Pausing and breathing has a positive impact on your mind and body. It slows you down and can actually change your brain chemistry. The good news is it is free and accessible to you 24/7.
